Property Taxes can absolutely be reduced and they should be reduced. Raising taxes in unnecessary for “School Funding”, but what have our public schools done for parents rights?
Quite frankly, the argument that my opponent makes keep or raise property taxes is blatantly misleading. Property Taxes was the number one complaint that we heard while canvassing in Pine Bluffs, and it was closely seconded by a complaint about the water rights.“This is something we have to be really cautious on, because Wyoming is already a low tax state, and the taxes we’re talking about are what fund our schools and our local governments”
Rep. John Eklund, Jr. told the Wyoming News
The local districts have a threshold they are expected to meet through various millages; local, district, and federal block grant funding (majority of money). Additionally, if the school funding comes up short, then excess dollars from better funded districts can be shifted to less funded districts in what WyoFile calls it a “Robin Hood” scheme. The reality is that the vast majority of School Foundation Programs revenue comes from the taxes on Federal Mineral Royalties. Meaning that the more the we drill and the more we mine then the more we have to spend on education and other programs without having to unnecessarily burden the residents of our state.
